Halcyon Day is a body care shop based in Durango, Colorado. Since 1992 we have focused on high quality body care products, fragrances, and essence oils from the American firm of Caswell-Massey, established in 1752, to the internationally renowned Crabtree & Evelyn®, and the diverse companies that specialize in aromatherapy and traditional perfume and soapmaking. No harmful additives or commonly known irritants are used in any of the products, and no animal testing has been done.
Body care is a very important part of life and living. Throughout history, water, bathing, cleanliness, and scent have been synonymous with relaxation, rejuvenation, purification, and rebirth. In fact, our name has its roots in Greek mythology. Halcyon (hal-se-on) was the devoted human lover of a fisherman who perished in a shipwreck. Halcyon was overwhelmed by heartache. The Greek gods, in compassion, transformed her and her beloved into the first kingfishers. These loving birds built their nest on the surface of the ocean. When the eggs are laid, the wind is restrained and the sea is calmed until the eggs are hatched. This two-week period, before and after the shortest day of the year--about December 21st--is known as "the halcyon days" in honor of faithful Halcyon.
